Protecting Kids Online is a national coalition fighting to protect children's privacy from government Digital ID mandates and data farming legislation by putting parents at the center of every conversation.

A Real Crisis.
The Wrong Solution.

We all know it's true: children are spending too much time online, in front of screens, accessing dangerous content unsupervised, and suffering real harm to their mental health and development. Parents often don't know what tools are available to protect their kids or how to use them. This is a real crisis, and the legislative response is making it much worse.

Across the country, the same model legislation—the App Store Accountability Act (ASAA)— keeps appearing in statehouse after statehouse. The ASAA is framed as protecting child safety but, on closer reading, the bill mandates identity verification for every American who wants to use a phone app, access social media, or engage with an AI platform. The ASAA, and bills like it, don't protect children. They build surveillance infrastructure to track everyday Americans.

Real child safety starts with informed, empowered parents, not government databases.

Age Verifcation Mandates

Bills requiring identity verification don't just affect minors, they surveil every American. The data infrastructure these bills create serves platforms and government agencies far more than it serves families.

Digital ID Mandates

Age verification is just the beginning. The same infrastructure being built to verify who can download an app is the foundation for a permanent government identity layer across every digital platform. Once it exists, it will be used...by government agencies, law enforcement, and the platforms themselves. A Digital ID mandate by any other name is still a Digital ID mandate.

AI and Social Media

AI companions are marketed to children with no safety standards. Social media platforms are designed for engagement over wellbeing. And the proposed legislative "solutions" often make the surveillance problem worse, not better.

Ed Tech and School Devices

In K–12 classrooms, school-issued devices are collecting behavioral data on children with no meaningful parental consent or oversight. Most parents have no idea what their child's school is sharing or with whom.

Teens Using Smartphones

We want a world where children are genuinely protected online, not surveilled in the name of safety. Where parents are informed, equipped, and confident in their role as their children's primary protectors. Where technology policy is shaped by informed parents, constitutional principles, and appropriately limited government authority. Where parental rights are the first consideration in every bill that claims to protect children.

Our Mission & Vision

Our mission is to protect children and defend parental rights and constitutional liberties by equipping families and citizens with the knowledge and tools to keep kids safe online, opposing government surveillance mandates disguised as child safety, and building an informed, independent coalition that changes both policy and culture.

Family Using Laptop
HOW WE WORK

Five Pillars. One Mission.

Engage

In hearing rooms, on social media, with lawmakers and industry leaders who oppose Digital ID mandates, wherever decisions about your family are being made.

Educate

Parents who understand what bills actually do and what data platforms, schools, and AI tools actually collect cannot be manipulated by emotional framing.

Equip

Testimony guides, action alerts, parental control resources, and school data request tools; turning knowledge into action for every parent who wants to fight back.

Empower

The parent voice is the most powerful force in a statehouse hearing room. We exist to put more of them there; trained, prepared, and impossible to dismiss.

Expose

The data privacy and security risks of the legislation proposed as the solution to protect children, but actually creates more risk.

OUR COMMITMENTS

Principles That Don't Bend.

Non-Partisan

This issue crosses every political line. So do we. Our positions are based on bill content and constitutional principles, not party affiliation.

Independent

Our positions are not for sale. Sponsorship funds our work. It does not direct our testimony, our bill evaluations, or our public statements.

Accountable

We answer to the parents and families we serve. Our positions are based on impact; not politics, not pressure, and not who's in the room.

Pro-Active

We don't just oppose bad policy. We propose real alternatives: data minimization, parental notification, ed-tech procurement standards, and AI guidelines built around children's needs

Parent-Led

The expertise that matters most in a hearing room is the experience of raising children in the digital age. That expertise lives in this coalition, not in a law firm or a think tank.
